LIVE SESSION: Boy Golden at Wild Coyote Recordings

We celebrated the croonin’ Canadian cowboy’s perfect fourth album ‘Best of Our Possible Lives’ with a performance and interview

Boy Golden is the croonin’ cowboy alter-ego of Winnipeg singer-songwriter Liam Duncan—a prairie boy with a Buddhist bent, singing and slingin’ beautiful songs inspired by love, spirituality, the philosophy of Wilhelm Leibniz and the music of Kris Kristofferson.

Best of Our Possible Lives, the artist’s fourth LP, dropped February 13th. To celebrate and commemorate the record, we met up with Liam and his band in Guttenberg, NJ—more specifically: Wild Coyote Recordings—to film a live session with BdBK BFFs I Know We Should.

In the cozy studio (accessible from NYC via incredibly scenic bus route), Liam and his bandmates performed four songs from the album: “Suffer”; “Cowboy Dreams”; “Eyes”; and “Best of Our Possible Lives.”

In between tracks, we talked about the making of the record: collaborating with Cat Clyde, smokin’ spliffs with Pino Palladino, the artistic freedom that comes with playing a character and songwriting as both product and process of self-discovery.

Plus, the philosophical question, what even makes a real cowboy? (Because if you’re galloping around on a horse in a music video, we kind of think it should count.)

Enjoy the session + grab your tickets to catch Boy Golden with Cat Clyde (another BdBK fave) on May 15th at Baby’s All Right—what’s sure to be the best of our possible nights.
