to celebrate their debut single “RUIN,” the brand-new band—two sets of identical twins, brought together BY mR. BEAST—talk beatles, backstreet & more

What do y0u get when you combine two sets of twins?

Not, it turns out, quadruplets. The answer, in this case, is iluvboyband: a tricked-out, trapped-out boy band for our all-in online era, composed of not one, but two, pairs of identical twins.

Brooklyn’s favorite bass and drum duo—brothers from the exact same mother—Venus Twins have joined forces with Philly’s simultaneously born siblings Disaster Artist in a new shared mission to bring back the boy band, and the group’s debut single “RUIN” (complete with music video shot where else but Six Flags) is OUT NOW!

This group isn’t a creation of Simon Cowell, and the band def (don’t worry!!) wasn’t made by Diddy. Instead, the band’s origin story—aside from the initial zygote splitting—is combination of fate, friendship and (obviously) the internet.

In the words of Venus Twins:

“Jo slid in our DM’s, trying to get Disaster Artist on one of the Philly shows Venus Twins was playing. The bill was full, but if you know us, back then we had another Philly show booked like 3 weeks after that. We played the show together, at Haus of Yarga, and instantly connected. Soon after we tried writing music together, it was a great time but nothing really concrete was sticking. A year of our friendship passed of hanging out and playing music. Finally the Mr. Beast 100 identical twin challenge came looking for twins so we both signed up for an interview.

We both were accepted for the video, and this would become the inception of iluvboyband. We swapped laptops back and forth in the hotel room while we were awaiting the challenge, this DIY, fast paced way of writing music changed all of our outlooks on what a project we could do together sounded like.

Screaming directly into that computer mic at times, all smacked with autotune and distortion, and our own version of what trap beats could sound like, we had made a boy band. I think like 6 songs from our upcoming record were all made in that hotel room, kinda crazy thinking about it haha, Mr. Beast created this boyband.”

Right after losing the Mr. Beast challenge, the band-in-process made “RUIN”—a 100% DIY product resulting from a truly collaborative process, the four of them passing around one laptop, all singing and working on the track.

With that, the band was born, and when the track dropped last week, the four twins did two things to christen it:

1. Perform at the Drexel University halftime show (boy bands are the new marching bands)
2. Rank their top boy bands for BdBK

1. The Beatles – the ogs, original Boyband. Every song is good. 
2. One direction – the GOATS, nonstop bangers. 
3. 5 seconds of summer – amnesia changed my life.
4. Big time rush – the show was incredible, flawless execution of a Boyband.
5. DRAIN GANG – it counts. 

Chris (Disaster Arist) 

1. one direction, I grew up listening to them and love Made in the A.M.
2. big time rush – great tv show and awesome music
3. Backstreet Boys – awesome music videos and style 
4. NYSNC – Justin Timberlake
5. the Beatles – they should realistically be higher up but I had to include them 

Matt (Venus Twins)

1. The Beatles -Best band ever. The OG boyband. They were my favorite band growing up. Also Beatles rock band made me wanna play guitar irl.
2. Gothboiclique- Lil Peep is my #1, maybe always will be. Idk if they ever called themselves a “goth boy band” but I saw that somewhere and thats sick. I listen to Wicca Phase all the time and loved Tigers Jaw in high school
3. Odd Future- All of OF were so sick, Earl was my fav. Also I’ve rewatched so many dif loiter squad bits.
4. One Direction- I loved their first two albums so bad back in the day. Louis was my fav. Their come up story on the x factor is sick too.
5. Big Time Rush- They have some freakin bangers, plus it’s sick that they’re doing shows again. The show is such a sick concept. I really wanna do one of our own but I guess we just have to settle for tiktok n what not. 

Jake (Venus Twins)

I’m keeping my top5 classic.

1. The Beatles – look at them in those suits tell me that ain’t a boyband… not the best beatles era but best boyband there ever was
2. One Direction – so many classic tracks, videos, merch, vlogs etc… I don’t think there’s a better modern boyband that had the come up they did. 
3. *NSYNC – I’m just such a sucker for JT honestly, bye bye is my fav track
4. Backstreet Boys – the OG’s of Lou Pearlman’s insane boyband scheme, regardless they paved the way for so many more to come of what is the modern boyband
5. Big Time Rush – they have a tv show….. I would like that very much, to have my own boyband tv show yes indeed.
